Media Composer uses QuickTime libraries to import and export QuickTime files and link to QuickTime files using non-Avid QuickTime codecs. I am running Media COmposer Also whenever I startup Avid an error appears that reads "Quicktime is not installed on ths system.

I downloaded the demo trial version of Avid 3. It played and ran just fine. However, I was not impressed with the video quality compared to my FCP program which is also installed on the same iMac.

I imported a couple files and then compared them to the same files on my FCP. The video on the computer and the external monitors was much more fuzzy and soft in the Avid compared to the same footage on the FCP. Why would that be? Would the Radeon card cause this? I thought the card problems would be more related to locking up the video or not playing it at all.

It actually plays and runs just fine, it just looks bad. I konw what that would be; your lack of time spent with the manual I will admit, I haven't read everything yet in the manual.

However, I have been editing on an Avid at work for 15 years. This is my first version for at home use. Now what button are you talking about? Where is it located? I am not at home on my computer, but rather at work on my Avid Symphony, which has no such button.

On the left hand corner of the timeline toolbar, there is a color screen that determines display resolution. Solid green is the highest. Also, check your media creation settings to see what resolution you are using for capture, import, etc. Create a customized bin view from headings that includes "video" to see what resolution existing clips are.

Schumacher Brazil: I'm not shure if the same applies to Phony,. In Symph, the button is there, but it only has green-green mode, and clicking it changes nothing. No my Symphony does not have such a button. I will however follow your advice and change my resoluiton on the 3.

Ther eare many things the same between my work Symphony and the home 3. I will have to play with the different import settings and resolution settings for import as well. The "HQ" high quality button is on the effects editor and only applies to effects created. Render settings in your user profile contain an option "Effects quality Render Using:" which is usually set for "Quality set in each effect".

There is some confusion here. I am asking about my Media Composer ver. At work I have a Symphony loaded on a PC. I only mentioned it because it does not have the button as mentioned to change the resolution quality. OK, my bad. OP is at work with phony, and wants to bring in some homework to play with at home, on MC. But, to play with it he should be there in the first place, right? Try this; Go home!

You will indeed find the resolution display button color screen on the timeline toolbar in MC 3. I will give it a try tonight when I get home. Hopefully then the video in MC 3. Officially, it's called the "Video Quality Menu" but it only affects monitor display quality, NOT the actual resolution of the clips being viewed.
